The Conservatorio G.F. Ghedini di Cuneo in Italy and the UBC School of Music have created a music bridge. Un Ponte Musicale is an educational and cultural exchange project between our two schools. In Part 1, two of our students were selected to travel to Italy to form a quintet with students from the Cuneo conservatory for masterclasses, rehearsals and chamber music performances in the Cuneo, Piedmont and Turin areas during the Olympic games last Feburary. In part 2 of the exchange, UBC welcomes two students and a professor from Cuneo to work together with three of our UBC students to rehearse and perform in several areas of British Columbia including Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna and Penticton. The centrepiece of their performances will be the Brahms Piano Quintet in f minor, Opus 34 with the Italian duo also featured in works by Schumann and Shostakovich for cello and piano.
