The Conservatorio G.F. Ghedini di Cuneo in Italy and the UBC School of Music have created a music bridge. Un Ponte Musicale is an educational and cultural exchange project between our two schools. This winter UBC welcomes two students and a professor from Cuneo to work together with three of our UBC students to rehearse and perform in several areas of British Columbia including Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna and Penticton. The centrepiece of their performances will be the Brahms Piano Quintet in f minor, Opus 34 with the Italian duo also featured in works by Schumann and Shostakovich for cello and piano.

The UBC Symphonic Wind Ensemble went on an exciting ten day tour of Taiwan and Hong Kong. This tour was the first time an UBC ensemble toured Asia. The ensemble performed nine concerts on this tour and while at the Taiwan Chiayi City Band Festival, they performed for more than 10,000 people. While in Hong Kong, the band had a wonderful opprotunity to perform the world premier of a composition by the Hong Kong composer and UBC alumnus, Anthony Chue, with a 320-voice choir.
