A Message from Nancy Hermiston, Director of the UBC Opera Program:

Thank you to everyone who attended our recent production of The Magic Flute, as a preview and test run of the renewed Old Auditorium. It was fantastic to see your support for our students with four sold-out performances! Indeed, The Magic Flute was a preview of many greater things to come in the fall at the School of Music, including the official opening of the Old Auditorium in October.

The renewal of the Old Aud is for many a dream come true. It will not only be of great educational value to the university, it will also renew connections with alumni and community members whose experiences and memories of the theatre remain dear to their hearts. I would like to personally thank everyone, including Premier Campbell and the BC Government, the University, and the donors from the community who are helping make this dream become a reality.

Our upcoming 2010-2011 Season we are able to offer you performances that span time and genres from Mozart to Massenet and Britten. In addition, we have expanded our Opera Teas Series. Watch for us at a variety of guest performances with our community partners including the Vancouver Symphony and join us at our annual fundraiser, the UBC Opera Ball.

Join us for this exciting season. Two world-class theatres – the magnificent Chan Centre and the renewed Old Aud. One hundred talented singers. An audience who believes in supporting the young talented singers here at UBC. We’re building new expectations - it will be a season you will not forget.
