The story: A cocktail of fear, passion, greed, and jealousy. The Crucible tells a story that is disturbingly familiar. One of the most important plays of the 1950s, Arthur Miller’s political parable about McCarthyism is set against the backdrop of the 1692 Salem witch hunt and remains as relevant today as at its premiere. Robert Ward's passionate music only increases the intensity of Arthur Miller's powerful message. The Crucible, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music, is much more than an American classic - it’s an operatic masterpiece.
