Ms. Chai holds degrees of Bachelor of Music from UBC, and Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy and Performance from the University of Michigan. Her teachers include Mary Tickner, Bob Rogers, Joanne Smith and Arthur Greene.

From 1996 to 1999, she taught and served as the Associate Director, at the Piano Pedagogy and Preparatory Program of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, working with all pre-college ages while training graduate student teachers.

From 2005-2007, Ms. Chai was also a music consultant for the Thompson Rivers University (formerly BC Open University). Currently, Ms. Chai continues to teach class piano courses at the University of British Columbia where she has taught since 1999.She also teaches piano and Musikgarten early childhood music classes at her private studio in Richmond. Ms.Chai is an active festival adjudicator
