CV: Dr. Vera Micznik
Vera Micznik's Doctoral Dissertation Meaning in Gustav Mahler's Ninth Symphony used an original analytical approach borrowed from semiotics and literary criticism, especially concerned with issues of genre and narrativity. Her work on Mahler, presented at several musicological conferences, was published in Revue Mahler Review, The Journal of Musicology, 19th Century Music, and The Journal of the Royal Music Association. Mahler articles are also included in Perspectives on Gustav Mahler edited by Jeremy Barham for Ashgate Press, and in the Cambridge Mahler Companion.
Dr. Micznik's other areas of interest are programme music, relationships between words and music, and more generally, musical meaning. Contributions in these areas include articles on Berlioz in The Musical Voyager: Berlioz in Europe (Peter Lang Press) and in 19th Century Music, and Liszt and programme music in Music and Letters. Prof. Micznik is presently working on a book exploring issues of the interactions between music and words in nineteenth century music with and without words.
