2009 Knigge Music Competition

Devon Joiner
Nanaimo, British Columbia

At the time of competition, Devon Joiner, 19, a fourth-year Bachelor of Music student at the University of British Columbia, is studying with renowned Canadian pianists Jane Coop and Robert Silverman.

At age 14, Devon received his ARCT Diploma under Lynne Gauthier and continued his studies with Diana Lawton. He has won many awards including first place at the Canadian Music Competition and the Performing Arts BC Festival, and third place at the Schimmel International Piano Competition. He was a winner in the Burnaby Clef Concerto Competition and won the top prize at the 8th International Russian Music Piano Competition. Devon was the youngest finalist in the UBC Concerto Competition who was chosen to play with the UBC Symphony Orchestra, and was selected as a 2008 Artsway UBC Music Ambassador. In 2008, he won 2nd prize in both the Knigge and Shean National Piano Competitions and won 3rd prize in the National Music Festival and Seattle International Piano Competition.

Devon was chosen to participate in the Morningside Music Bridge summer music programs in Shanghai in 2006 and Calgary in 2007. He has performed several solo concerts and performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and has been featured on both TV and radio.

Wednesday Noon Hour Concert

Included in First Prize was an appearance in our 2009 -2010 Wednesday Noon Hour concert series. Devon Joiner made his debut at the UBC Recital Hall on November 25, 2009 and performed the programme below beautifully.
