The annual Knigge Piano Competition is graciously supported by a generous gift from Dieter and Hanne-Lore Knigge. The competition is for solo piano and open to pianists ages 16 - 25 who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or who are currently studying full-time at a Canadian educational institution at the time of application.
Competition: Saturday, March 3 ~ 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
(Admission FREE. Winners announced approx. 6:30 p.m.)
Winners Showcase Concert: Sunday, March 4 ~ 4:00 pm
(Tickets: Adults $10 | Seniors $5 | Students FREE)

First Prize: $7,000 cash, plus a solo recital during the 2012-2013 UBC School of Music season (includes an artist fee and travel reimbursement)
Second Prize: $4,000 cash
Third Prize: $2,000 cash
In addition there is a $250 prize for the best performance of the required work.
The Pianos:
Competitors will have 2 pianos to choose from. Finalists will choose their competition instrument from either the School of Music's house Steinway (D466), or the Steinway Haida Art Case piano Kuniisii - Music & Mythology on loan for the 2012 competition. Tom Lee Music has kindly offered the loan of the Haida Art Case piano to the UBC School of Music for use during the 2012 Knigge Piano competition.
