Brass, Woodwind and Percussion Division

Faculty Directory for Performance: Brass, Woodwind & Percussion

The Wind and Percussion Division is represented in many facets of the School of Music's daily life. Wind, Brass and Percussion students perform in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, small wind ensembles such as wind quintets and brass groups, mixed ensembles, the Contemporary Players, the Collegium Musicum, Jazz Bands, chamber orchestras, opera productions and diverse ensembles organized for degree recitals. Students are enrolled for Bachelor of Music, Masters of Music, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degrees.

Enrollment is controlled so that all students are allowed as much performance time as they can possibly fit into their schedules and opportunities exist to play in multiple ensembles. Graduates from the UBC Wind and Percussion program are currently working in major symphony orchestras, opera orchestras, brass and woodwind ensembles, musical theatre and touring ensembles, early music orchestras and commercial music fields around the world and many of our graduates hold prestigious appointments in universities, colleges, and public schools. The main focus of the division is to allow each student to progress to the apex of their performance potential.

Opportunities for performances in community ensembles such as the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, New Westminster Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, Abbotsford Symphony, local and regional bands, and many small ensembles, make the UBC School of Music a great place for practical experience in the free-lance and community music scene. Our most qualified students and recent graduates are found in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Opera Orchestra, CBC Radio Orchestra, Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Kamloops Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Montreal Symphony, Calgary Symphony, Edmonton Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pittsburg Symphony, National Orchestra of Malaysia, National Arts Center Orchestra of Ottawa and the Nova Scotia Symphony to name but a few.

All students are evaluated for Scholarship support upon audition. Audition materials are available upon request
