The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, just a two minute walk from the Music Building, opened in April 1997 to critical acclaim. Comprising of the 1,400-seat Chan Shun concert hall, the 200-seat Telus studio theatre and a 150-seat cinema, the facility is a superb rehearsal and performance home for the School's large ensembles: Symphony Orchestra, Wind, Jazz and Percussion Ensembles, Choirs and Opera. The Chan Shun Concert Hall consistently attracts a new and expanding audience for the School of Music's performance activities.
The Chan Shun Concert Hall boasts the very lastest in accoustic arrangement and was designed as a musical instrument with the audience seated inside the reverberation chamber. Artists, critics and patrons alike are unanimous in their praise of the multi-faceted facility, it is now considered one of North America's premier performing arts venues.
